Michelangelos First Painting - Term Paper Example This essay discusses the Michelangeloââ¬â¢s first painting, that was the Torment of Saint Anthony. The researcher states that it is believed to be the ââ¬Å"earliest known paintingâ⬠of Michelangelo in the age of ââ¬Å"12 or 13 years oldâ⬠. It is dated back to ââ¬Å"1487-88,â⬠when Michelangelo had befriended an assistant in ââ¬Å"the workshop of Domenico Ghirlandaio in Florenceâ⬠which did an engraving of Saint Anthony from a ââ¬Å"German master called Martin Schongauerâ⬠. The issue is discussed in the essay by the researcher whether it is the master ââ¬â who spectacularly painted the Sistine Chapels in Vatican ââ¬â has did the painting or other artists in the workshop is an immense matter of interest among art experts. But circumstances of the time of Michelangeloââ¬â¢s painting had magnified the possibility that indeed the Torment is Michelangeloââ¬â¢s first painting. It is also said that during the development of the said painting, t he Michelangelo visited fish market "portray fish scalesâ⬠. The researcher also mentiones that if Torment is indeed Michelangeloââ¬â¢s, then it will be a prized find by the Kimbell Art Museum in America. The researcher describes the over-all composition of the work, it's visual elements and design principles as well as interpretation of the work and the aesthetics and the meaning of the work. The researcher then concluds that the painting itself is more than beautiful ââ¬â it is meaningful even. All the elements complement well with the theme and the use of dramatic colors and striking lines made the painting simply meaningful.

Two Writers Compare of Education Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Two Writers Compare of Education - Assignment Example On the side of Derrick Jensen, education, especially the modern educational systems, should enroll and mold the student into the realms of creativity and individuality. He also extends that education schools are to impart and unveil the realities of life, not illusions like that of happiness lying outside learnersââ¬â¢ classroom. The two writers compare through their acknowledgment that education should not generate an illusion, rather it should reveal and aid in solving the realities of life. The two do not seem to conform to the traditional education system, rather advocate that education should help learners find their own voices, freedom, and creativity. To them, education has less to do with knowledge, but being in touch with actuality, as this helps on how to connect to the core of our creative selves. Wild by Cheryl Strayed is a spectacular tale, which sums up the profound meditation on the nature of the angst and endurance. It is a story of a woman, in her journey from lost to found. The self-discovery that Strayed describes as having a lot of shit to shovel emanates from the death of her mother, exit from the university, divorce from her husband and the shocking shockwaves of this drama. This compares to Andrew Forstaffle in the This American Life radio episode Hit the Road. Andrew episodes describe how the fascinating ordinary people are despite the dismissive snort of those around them. The two contrast in that one is a novel by Strayed while the other is Radio short stories and essays. Reading the two, one would encounter an inspiring tale from people, both physical and psychological journey through lifeââ¬â¢s wilderness of despair until they reach a renewed sense of oneself. According to these writers, Wild, in literal forms means the choice of a writer to unveil his or her unflinching and emotionally incisive language.Ã

DQ1 - Copyright Compensation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
DQ1 - Copyright Compensation - Essay Example Technological barriers would be represented by the high number of households being connected to the internet wirelessly, thus making it difficult to track down how levies should be charged, and peer to peer sharing that is not done via the Internet (e. g. sharing through portable media and memory drives) (Oksanen & Valimaki, 2005). Suggestions of putting levies on computer hardware themselves have been met with strong disapproval. This is because such an action may led to an unfair charging on people who require the computer hardware but has not intention of using such hardware for infringing copyright purposes. Thus, these consumers will actually be overcharged for something that they wonââ¬â¢t use. It is quite clear that levies and value-added charges cannot exactly sustain their purpose in an age where people keep on thinking of ways to get things for free. Thus, rather than focusing on these alternative modes of compensation, the people concerned should be coming up with ways to somehow be lenient with the sharing of the information that they own and devise methods by which compensation will trickle in without having to label it as a ââ¬Å"levyâ⬠or ââ¬Å"value-added charge.â⬠For example, the music industry may suffer from decreasing sales in records but that doesnââ¬â¢t mean the industry should suffer as well. Music personalities go on tours, engage in endorsement deals, and may even use the Internet to their advantage. With these efforts, the artists will be remunerated in a more appropriate level. In the literary industry, best-selling author Paulo Coelho actually publishes entire copies of his books on his blogs for free. Prior to this unorthodox move, Coelho was merely a locally known writer in his home country of Brazil. After publishing his book online and allowing consumers to read the entire book for free, sales of his books skyrocketed and a lot of his books have been best sellers ever since. Such an example illustrates that in the end, shared information will correspondingly remunerate the artist behind such products and ideas. Coelho realized that while a few people would probably endure reading an entire novel on their PCââ¬â¢s, a majority would still want to purchase a hard copy. And purchase they surely will as soon as they get to sample the product. As such, levies and value-added charges are not only infeasible, they are unnecessary as well. Some of these are copyright, which protects the rights of people behind expression of information; patents protect the rights of those who invented a new commodity; and, trademarks protect symbols that are associated with a given product or company. The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) - The Assignment
The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) - The International Corporate Reporting Issues - Assignment Example Wood and Sangster (2008) highlights that the IASC was initially founded by an Accountantââ¬â¢s International Study Group particularly in 1973. The IASB is an international but independent accounting setting body. Soon after becoming the international accounting standards setting body, the members of IASB finalized and decided to discuss, develop, in the global public interest, a single set of high quality international accounting standards. (About Us, n.d.). However, as IASB is UK-based and its standards are mostly applied to the UK based corporations, the U.S. corporations follow the accounting standards by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). The globalization and increase in cross border transactions necessited both boards to work closely and issue collective international accounting standards. This process begins the convergence between the IASB and the FASB particularly in 2002 Norfolk agreement, where both regulatory bodies developed a consensus to develop and is sues a set of high quality compatible standards (Carmona and Trombetta, 2010). However, there exist various challenges that make it substantially difficult for the both bodies to ensure the global but uniform application of the international accounting standards. ... Since the IASB possesses no legal backing to implement its own developed international accounting standards, it would be substantially difficult for the IASB to ensure and monitor the global recognition and uniform application of the IFRS. Ironically, soon after the establishment of the IASC in the United Kingdom, the foundation of the FASB took place in the U.S. it would not be incorrect to say that the creation of the FASB was a counter measure to the existence and function of the IASC. Moreover, in the same year 1973, the FASB developed and drafted its own accounting standards and issued within the United States. Consistently, the FASB has been developing the Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) as a counter measures for the IASs being produced by the IASB till the year of 2002. Furthermore, the FASB works as a competitor to the IASB. Both have agreed to the IFRS would be implemented in the United States of America by the end of 2015. This is an endeavour to introduce th e global uniform application and practice of the IFRS and this would bring a forward step toward the attainment of the global application and practice of the international accounting frameworks and standards. However, this global and uniform application received a severe blow when the FASB independently and separately outlined, developed and published its own vision on how to carry out the process of reforms in the accounting of financial instruments (Veron, 2010). Also, the IASC Foundation has been widely criticized on its approach towards entertaining its mission. In this regard, the European banking sector highlights its reservations over the certain announcements of the IASC. Consequently, it has heightened hostitlity between the two; the hostility becomes

Compare and contrast freud's psychodynamic conceptualisations and Essay
Compare and contrast freud's psychodynamic conceptualisations and Rogers' person centred and phenomenlogical conceptualisations - Essay Example Freud could be hated, criticised, but could never be ignored. Both had clinical theories, based on their own experiences, which were sound and contributing, and both theorists had well thought-out theories without any obvious loopholes and both their theories had very broad application possibilities. To some extent, the similarities end here. The difference comes in the simplicity and elegance of Rogerââ¬â¢s theory and the difficult, exalted concept of Freudââ¬â¢s. This does not mean that Freudââ¬â¢s theory is inapplicable. Actually, it has remained more applicable than all the other psychoanalytic theories. But Roger simplified much of the theory and to a very large extent, humanised them. For Roger, the psychological disturbances and metal difficulties and deficiencies of a person are normal, because he thinks about mental problems in par with the physical problems and he says, in humans, it is expectable. He builds his entire theory on a single ââ¬Ëforce of lifeââ¬â¢ and calls it the manââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëactualizing tendencyââ¬â¢. He thinks that every man has a built-in-motivation that could be either ignored or developed into its fullest possible potential. His concept says that apart from the survival instinct, man has the foremost desire to develop himself to the fullest potential, and whether he d oes so, or not, depends on the circumstances and will power, but definitely not due to lack of desire. He thought organisms, birds, animals, ecosystems have more possibilities of maximising and utlising their potential than the man and he called it organismic valuing with positive regard. All concepts theorised by Rogers were more person-centred more connected with personââ¬â¢s own experience and framework of reference as response to the obvious phenomenological functioning of the person. His focus is on the immediacy of clientââ¬â¢s experience. He said ââ¬Å"I do not minimise the importance of dealing with the past as it

Statement for Applying Leadership Award Personal
For Applying Leadership Award - Personal Statement Example To elucidate in greater detail, since 2006 I have been a designated outreach executive for Cuts For Cancer, an annual event in which students are given the unique opportunity to help ease the suffering of children and cancer sufferers. In this capacity I have spearheaded numerous fundraising initiatives for those suffering from long-term hair loss stemming from the effects of cancer treatment. Locks of hair are sent to a company which turn them into wigs, and this in combination with cash donations result in synergistic benefits for our recipients. Last year alone we successfully raised $15,000 , including an encouraging total of 196 hair donations. As an outreach executive my responsibilities included the promotion of our organization, utilizing local media channels including major broadsheets, television, and radio stations. I also have a marked interest in health-care related issues, volunteering at the emergency waiting area of St. Paul's Hospital during the summer of last year. During my short tenure I tended to the immediate needs of the patients, doing my best to lift their spirits and boost their morale. In addition, I am also currently a group leader for the In-Sight mentoring program, helping freshmen do well academically as well as making sure that they are engaged in well-meaning, worthwhile activities.

Students Preference of Theory or Practical Teaching Methods in Essay
Students Preference of Theory or Practical Teaching Methods in Orthodontic Postgraduate Education - Essay Example Due to the significance of the projected theme, an educator from New Zealand, Neil Fleming, designed a survey called VARK (Visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic) in 1998. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the most preferred teaching technique of dental undergraduates and to illustrate any important distinction amongst the group of students. 31,243 respondents were interviewed regarding VARK preferences. The outcome of the research revealed that there were major divergences in studentsââ¬â¢ preferences for a particular teaching style. Overall, dental students preferred practical (kinaesthetic) learning to theoretical (aural) learning. The distribution of the scores also demonstrated preference for teachers who adopted well-planned practical teaching styles and assisted student note-taking throughout the teaching sessions. This case study will consider how these practices have impacted on teaching practices within the field of dental education. The paper will also report the outcomes of a small-scale survey of learning preferences of postgraduate orthodontics students and make recommendations for future teaching practice. Table of Contents Introduction 4 Problem Statement 5 Literature Review 6 Research Methodology 10 Data Collection Process 10 Distributed Questionnaires 11 Data Analysis 12 Validity and Reliability of the Case Study 12 Results 12 Discussion 15 Conclusion 18 Introduction The most important challenge facing dental instructors is the improvement in the quality of learner experience within the programme of study and educational surroundings. In undergraduate dental education, informative and scientific teaching is compressed into a span of four years sometimes even less (Bertolami 2001). This time span includes both theoretical and clinical practice which is a prerequisite to complete for successful graduation (Robotham n.d.). Although the incorporation of scientific approaches in the field of clinical practice is a fundamental aim of a ny dental course, learners often recognise that the secret for success in training is to pass the science classes by adopting rote learning and memorization approaches in addition to understanding the significance of this education when put into practice (Jordan, 2005). Bertolami (2001) has suggested that one of the most important reasons why students get frustrated with their programme of study was the lack of correspondence involving the learning (content) and the instruction delivery (form). While a considerable number of dental students had a preference for various learning techniques, most relied almost exclusively on the lecture as their primary means of information delivery. Teaching topics using lectures can be essentially passive for the learner and didactic approaches support rote memorization and note-taking (Biggs, 2003). It is essential for dental teachers to recognize that students differ from one another and what oftentimes differentiates them is their diverse approac hes to learning and knowledge retention. Adhering to all these factual revelations, this case study explores the preferred teaching technique of postgraduate orthodontic students at Kingââ¬â¢s College London orthodontic program using questionnaires as the method for data collection. This research question will serve the purpose
